His pioneering research includes falls prevention and promoting lifestyle changes to prevent dementia.
Manuel Montero-Odasso
Inaugural Wolfe Research Professorship in Aging, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University
September 1, 2024, to August 31, 2030
Dr. Montero-Odasso and his team are the first in Canada to determine the potential reversible factors for dementia, as identified using the Lancet Commission's framework (which includes the 12 modifiable risk factors for dementia), can be assessed using the attributable fraction approach. This method calculates how much of the risk of dementia can be linked to certain lifestyle, medical, and environmental factors. By identifying and modifying these factors, it’s possible to reduce the incidence of dementia in the aging Canadian population.
