POEM team objectives are to measure, support, and guide Department of Medicine faculty who are engaged in research. Annually we conduct a systematic quantification and evaluation of our members' research output and successes through an online peer-review process. Key measurements include publication citations, grants, and quality of research.

POEM coordinates peer-reviews, drawing from our large pool of research experts, for internal and external grant submissions, including CIHR, Heart and Stroke, AMOSO Opportunity and Innovation funds, Western and Lawson internal grants, and PSI. The POEM team is also responsible for coordinating and running the Department of Medicine's annual Research Day, which is a full day event for DOM trainees to present their research.

Quarterly the POEM Director hosts a POEM Faculty Feed and Update event. It is a forum for informal discussions about research in the Department of Medicine, new research ideas, and to foster potential collaborations. Mentorship of our junior faculty members is very important and POEM works to ensure mentorship meetings are occurring on a regular basis.
