Hematology |
SELAY LAM, MD, FRCPC, Assistant Professor Dr. Selay Lam is a clinical hematologist at the London Health Sciences Centre with a cross-appointment at the London Regional Cancer Program. She is an Associate Professor of Medicine at The Schulich School of Medicine, Western University. Dr. Lam graduated from University of Ottawa Medical School in 2008, and then did her Internal Medicine and Hematology training at Western University. She joined the Division of Hematology at Western University in 2013. Her main clinical and research interests are in lymphoproliferative disorders and plasma cell dyscrasia. She is the Medical Director of the Hematology Disease Site Team at LRCP, and a member of the Hematology Disease Site Group of the Cancer Care Ontario Program in Evidence Based Care. She is presently the local Principal Investigator for many lymphoma and myeloma clinical trials run through the Hematology Clinical Research Unit at London Regional Cancer Program. Dr. Lam is a leader in Medical Education at Schulich School of Medicine. She is the Undergraduate Medical Education Hematology Lead. She has also been Competency Based Medical Education Director for Internal Medicine and Hematology Residency Training Program at Western University since 2017. She is currently the Associate Program Director for the Postgraduate Training Program in Internal Medicine. SHAHAR LAVI, MD, FRCPC, Bsc, Professor I received my Bsc and MD from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology and completed postgraduate training in internal medicine and cardiology at Rambam Medical Centre, Haifa, Israel. Subsequently I completed a research and clinical fellowship in coronary physiology, imaging, and interventional cardiology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. During my fellowship I received formal training in clinical research and obtained a Certificate in Clinical Research from the Clinical Research Training Program at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education. In 2008 I completed a Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at Toronto General Hospital. During my training I received numerous awards, as well as research and fellowship grants. I published about 40 peer-reviewed papers in top ranked journals and presented many abstracts in scientific meetings. Presently, I am an assistant professor at the University of Western Ontario in the Department of Medicine, and an Interventional Cardiologist at London Health Sciences Centre. I am working on several clinical research studies that I initiated involving coronary physiology and myocardial protection during PCI and acute myocardial infarction. ALEJANDRO LAZO LANGNER, MD, FRCPC, Professor, Chair, Division of Hematology Alejandro Lazo-Langner MD MSc FRCPC is an Associate Professor of Medicine, Oncology, and Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Western University where he is the Chair/Chief of the Division of Hematology. He is an Associate Scientist at Lawson Health Research Institute and an Adjunct Scientist at IC/ES Western. He holds an MD degree from Universidad La Salle School of Medicine in Mexico and an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Ottawa. His research is focused on determinants of thromboembolic diseases, population-based studies, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, clinical trials, and risk-benefit analysis. ALEKSANDRA LELIGDOWICZ, MD, DPhil, FRCPC, Assistant Professor Dr. Leligdowicz is a clinician scientist in the Department of Medicine in the division of Critical Care Medicine. She completed a medical degree at McGill University and a PhD at Oxford University in human HIV immunology in West Africa. Following residencies in internal medicine (UBC) and adult critical care (UofT), she pursued her interest in immunology and severe infection as a postdoctoral research scholar at the UCSF. Her laboratory at Robarts Research Institute uses cellular and molecular tools to study biological samples from patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to understand the mechanisms contributing to the regulation of inflammation in severe infection Leligdowicz Lab . The focus of her research is translational biology of immune dysregulation and endothelial injury in early sepsis. The goal of her research is to understand pathology of sepsis and improve the diagnosis and personalize treatment of this complex syndrome. PETER LEONG-SIT, MD, MSc, FRCPC, FHRS, Associate Professor Dr. Leong-Sit is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Western University and a member of the London Heart Rhythm Program at London Health Sciences Hospital in London, Ontario. He completed medical school at the University of British Columbia, Internal Medicine residency at McMaster University, Cardiology Fellowship at the Western University, Arrhythmia Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, and Masters of Science in Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. He joined the London Heart Rhythm Program in 2009 with a clinical and research interest in atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia catheter ablation. He has contributed to over 74 peer-reviewed publications, 7 book chapters, 4 textbooks, and 5 non-peer reviewed publications. He has received multiple teaching awards and co-chaired an intracardiac echo and cardiac transseptal puncture course in C-Star. LORELEI LINGARD, PhD, Professor Lorelei Lingard is a leading researcher in the study of communication and collaboration on healthcare teams. She is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Western Ontario (UWO), and the inaugural Director of the Centre for Education Research & Innovation at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at UWO. Lorelei received her PhD in Rhetoric from Simon Fraser University in 1998. Her research program investigates the nature of communication on inter-professional healthcare teams in a variety of clinical settings, including the operating room, the intensive care unit, the internal medicine ward, the adult rehabilitation unit, and the family health centre. She is particularly interested in how communication patterns influence patient safety, and how learning to talk in sanctioned ways shapes the professional identity of novices. Lorelei’s research program is funded by CIHR, SSHRC, Health Canada, MOHLTC, the RCPSC and other agencies. SELINA LIU, MD, MSc, FRCPC Cert Endo, Associate Professor Dr. Selina Liu is an Associate Professor in the Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism, Department of Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. She is also cross-appointed to the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and is an Associate Scientist at Lawson Health Research Institute. Dr. Liu obtained her medical degree at Queen’s University, Kingston (2006), completed her Internal Medicine residency (2010) and Endocrinology & Metabolism fellowship (2011) at Western University. She was the recipient of the 2011 Schulich Resident Research Career Development program award which supported her Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology (2014). She also had previously completed a Master’s degree in Pharmacology & Toxicology (2004) prior to her medical training. Dr. Liu joined the Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism, Department of Medicine as a Clinician-Researcher in 2014. She is the Medical Director of the St. Joseph’s Healthcare London Endocrine Pregnancy Clinic, which is the regional referral centre for endocrine problems in pregnancy. She has participated as Site Principal Investigator for both investigator-initiated and pharma-sponsored multi-centre clinical trials of new insulins and glucose monitoring systems for diabetes in pregnancy, and of new medications for type 2 diabetes. MARTHA LOUZADA, MD, FRCPC, BSc, MSc, Associate Professor Dr. Martha Louzada, BSc, MD, MSc is a Brazilian-born Hematologist. She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and a Hematology Consultant at the University of Western Ontario/ London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario, Canada, joining the Department of Medicine in July 2010. She also holds a Cross Appointment in Oncology through the London Regional Cancer Program. Dr. Louzada took her medical training in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. Her entire academic career in Medicine has been marked by an ascending level of qualification and recognition, both nationally and internationally at each academic institution where she studied or worked. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology with a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and obtained her medical degree from Souza Marques School of Medicine in December 1999, both with highest honors. After completing her Internal Medicine Residency Program at Santa Casa de Misericordia Hospital she did a 3-year Haematology Residency program at Instituto Nacional de Cancer (National Cancer Institute). This gave her a strong background in malignant Haematology and bone marrow transplantation. In 2006, she embarked on a new experience in North America coming to Ottawa, Canada, for a 3- year postdoctoral fellowship in Thrombosis along with a Masters in Epidemiology and Community Medicine Program at the University of Ottawa / Ottawa Hospital, Canada. It was in Ottawa that her research career started, under the supervision of internationally leading thrombosis researchers Drs. Phil Wells and Marc Rodger. In October 2009 she was awarded the Phil Wells Trainee Research Award at the University of Ottawa, recognizing Excellence in Haematology Research.
